It's been a long time since I challenged myself to make something within a given deadline... BurdaStyle.com and Bernina came with the irresistible idea of "Party through the decades"... plenty of inspiration to choose from and lots of freedom in creating...

 

My sewing machine was like "no way", grinning at me from the service shop where it felt like on a well deserved vacation (we'll see each other eye to eye soon and have a word about that:|)   I waited patiently, taking it one day at a time, hoping each day for a come back -  after two weeks I managed to get a backup machine ( a Singer which fortunately agreed not to make a fuss about getting into a Bernina competition!)

The last 3 days have been incredibly hectic, I was running after 2 rabbits (aka dresses) and I grabbed both  by their tails more or less, with many changes of plans and stretching every minute into 2 - there was no other way I could have finished, sorry if that's considered cheating!

I can't remember working with satin before - I'm almost sure that's one thing I couldn't have forgotten if I did... (actually I have, but it was thicker)

Satin= (definition) something so luring that you can't say no to, although you suspect it means trouble


The one shoulder drapery makes me think that subliminally I might be wearing a saree under my skin;)

    I am super pulling for you! The colors of this dress is so lush and I just love how the one shoulder comes up, lightly braided, from the back bodice.

    I absolutely feel you on the allure of satin. So soft! So silky! And yet you can totally tell: "you have a mind of your OWN, don't you??!"

    thanks! the way you talk abt it, you make me fall in love with it all over again ... I wish the pics captured the beads as sparkling as they are and the colours as deep as they are, but sunset - some things it gives, some things it takes...

    and yes, that's exactly how suspicious satin makes me feel abt it! :))

After coming back from my vacation I felt that my every day wardrobe needs refreshing. But from thinking to doing something about it - there's a long way! I had the floral fabric for a while now. Time Travel Dress!

Yes, this is what Mr. Snaxo was trying to show you! It's a dress that took me lots of time to start, then some time to make, then lots of time passed till I took pictures! All abt Time Time Time! What's a dress for? To go here and there, therefore travel ... (But I'm pretty sure I didn't think this much when I just named it Time Travel Dress ... ) Other arguments I bring in favour of the name (these also just popped out): the print takes you back to childhood - it's full of of cute scribbles, all on a dotty background like in vintage comic strips! it's tight around the neck so that no matter how you land on the other side of the time portal you won't spill out of your dress!  It's also elegant because it seems to agree with this one of a kind definition I read here : True elegance almost always has a waist and is ladylike, i.e. it’s feminine and you can get our of a car without blushing. : ) Also out of a time machine , I would add......
