Selvedge Ties For Your Roses!

Why selvedge?
  • because it's quick- one edge doesn't frail so less stitching = less time consumed
  • easy to match - for a rose made out of the same fabric or same color
  • to put to good use these durable strips that otherwise are likely to be thrown away
Why a tute?
  • the selvedge is narrow - that's about how to make the most of it in an easy way!
  • ... so that I know what I did next time I need something similar:)
    How much do you need?

     

    • The total length of the ties will be half, so if you take 1m selvedge you get 0.5 m strip
    How?
    • Fold the selvedge strip in 2 lengthwise, straight stitch along the frailing  edge, as close as possible to the edge. I move the needle in its left position for this.
    • Reached the other end? Turn 90 degrees and stitch.

    •  Turn the strip inside out lengthwise - the frailing edge is now inside

    • The unfrailing  edges are now on the same line . The center of the universal foot is on that line, zig - zag!

    final look
    • zig-zag the opposite side too if you want a symmetric look
    • fold in 2 (of course, lengthwise) and stitch to the back of the rose at that point
    • make a bow to tie the rose to a scarf, for example...

    But which kind of rose is this one?:D Any one of these?

      Very interesting! My sewing only involves patches or fixing horse blankets - so a little over my head :) Love the end product.

    The Story Of The Exuberance Necklace

      Once upon a time... after the big bang anyways... there was a sketch of a top for which I wanted to use  contrasting colors. Or maybe I bought the fabrics and then made this sketch... in any case, mesmerized by these iridescent shades of purple and green I took 2 m of each - let's call them gred and purpink. But the flow of this silk cotton and the idea of my top didn't really get along or I lost enthusiasm somewhere along the way, anyways after some time I was left with 2 m in bits and pieces of purpink and of course gred. The contrast inspired me however to try something twisted both literally and figuratively- and it implied thick cotton fusible canvas and machine embroidery on the edge- which seemed like a tough task for my sewing machine from the very beginning but it wasn't enough for me to give up:D.
